249. sor:
* We are looking for a symmetry in any escutcheon, and always reduce the number of fields to the lowest possible degree, to find the reflection of both (or more) opposing sides in the shield. (So, one or more composing fields may be subdivided.)
* Undivided (O) composed arms (OSZ/O) can only be the shields with inescutcheons, and those composed arms (like the arms of alliance), which have their principal escutcheons undivided or containing some inescutcheon(s).
* Various possible ways of partition can occur in the F, H, N, and NT shields (per pale, per fess, per bend, quarterly, per saltire, for example; see the step I).
* Chief and base are not fields but ordinaries (Step I. EGY. 3.a.), except they are playing the function of a distinc field (OSZ. 3.a.) (when they are loaded by charges, for example).
